Ieat charity dinner! (In support of AG Home)

A couple of weeks ago, I met up with Doctor Leslie Tay of ieatishootipost fame for lunch.

This is he, and his able assistant, Nurse Teddy (Ladies, this is your cue to swoon!)

It was one of his many food outings, and he took me to an indian vegetarian restaurant near the office, which I thought was interesting to say the least. I’m not going to say anything about the food since in this instance, I am clearly not the authority. You can read about the restaurant here.

Whilst we were having lunch, Leslie, explained how he wanted to do his part for charity, and use his influence as a blogger to spread good will. He had admirably planned a charity dinner, ably assisted by a community of friends and supporters.

With the support of Astons Prime (which is located at 467 Joo Chiat Road), who were sponsoring the food and venue, Leslie set up a wonderful evening of food, drink and good company, and all in the name of a good cause. AG Home.

A note about AG Home

AG Home is a foster home, that has stay in facilities and care services for up to 60 girls, aged 12-18 who have issues like

  1. Teenage Pregnancy
  2. Pyschological/Physical/Sexual Abuse
  3. Juvenile/Young Offences
  4. Lack of family support

It was founded and led by Andrew and Grace Choo.

This is their website, the home takes a significant amount of money to operate. Whilst MCYS supports it significantly, a large proportion of money has to be raised every month by Pastor Andrew. If any nuffnanger would like to help out, they can contact us directly (62975992 or through the helpdesk), and we will get them in touch with the home.

A giving community

Having heard the story, I felt compelled to act. Nuffnang has always had a vision of being a socially responsible community. We have launched charity ads in Malaysia, and they will be launching in Singapore soon too. We’ve supported environmental causes such as Honda’s “Save the Sumatran Rhino” campaign to good effect.

This was as good an opportunity as any to start contributing in Singapore. And to such a worthy cause too.

As a result, I pledged a small table of six attendees, and Nuffnang also sponsored a small amount of money for Pizza and KFC meals for the kids back home.

The evening was a splendid success. You can read more about it here. Or here.
