I first heard about www.hitchoo.com through my friend over Facebook. My first thought was of doubt: wondering how and whether it could actually work. That of course was the cynical side of me, and once the more optimistic half of me started dwelling deeper into the contents of the website, I became intrigued and impressed. I started to wonder how many more girlfriends I would have had if Hitchoo cards had been invented a few years earlier. I realized the answer was probably nil, but I would have made more friends!
I later realized that the founder of www.hitchoo.com , Yinghan, was one of my old friends from secondary school whom I had not seen or heard from for quite a while. When I returned to Singapore, I did not have any concrete plans lined up for the summer and didn’t want to be tied down to an 8:30am – 6:00pm desk-bound job. I had always been flirting with ideas of entrepreneurship, so I thought, what better an opportunity than to work in an actual start-up itself?
Hence, I got into contact with Yinghan, and soon, I started working with him. It has been a roller coaster ride since then and I learnt that working in a dot.com involves much more than sitting at the computer screen the whole day waiting for people to visit your website. I was also impressed by the quality of the team he had working with him which included people from various disciplines vocations but all with the common desire of wanting the company to succeed. Everyone was very passionate about the Hitchoo concept and the greater goal of helping Singaporeans find their true love.
Being in a small company like www.hitchoo.com , everyone needs and gets to learn about every aspect of the company’s operations and contribute in any avenue possible ranging from sales and marketing to arranging corporate partnerships.
I have enjoyed my past few weeks here at Hitchoo, having made trips to Microsoft, met NUS and SMU students, been on a boat trip with other dating industry insiders, celebrated ping.sg’s first anniversary party, went for a photo shoot at SPH (watch out for my picture on mypaper.sg!) and chatted to many entrepreneurs.
What more do I have to say? This is a summer I will not forget! Give love a chance today!
