PassportChop.com

Nuffnang Featured Blogger for the month of November

Hello fellow Nuffangers!

I am Zhiqiang, “Editor” for PassportChop.com. Together with my “Creative Director” – Tingyi, we blog about our travel experiences and share our travel tips and trip itineraries as well as the best places to see, eat and stay at various destinations on PassportChop.com.

How PassportChop.com Came About?

Having embarked on a number of Do-It-Yourself (DIY) long trips to various countries e.g. 14-day Round Taiwan Island trip (台湾环岛旅行) in 2008 and 17-day Central Europe trip in 2009, we get asked a lot about our trip itineraries and what we ate and where we stayed during our trips. Instead of repeating our adventures over and over again, we decided to create a one-stop site where our friends and relatives can get the information they need to plan their trips. This site could then be supplemented with the gigabytes of pictures we took during each trip. A picture says a thousand words – so we do not have to write so much. Haha… :)

The blog’s name “PassportChop” refers to the numerous customs stamps collected on our passports during our trips. It is meaningful (for a travel-themed blog), sounded catchy and very Singaporean (the “Chop” means stamp in Singlish), thus it was chosen as our blog name.

What We Blog About at PassportChop.com?

Where and What to Eat

Be it the best chocolate cake (Sacher Torte) in Vienna, Austria or …

… crispy crickets and centipedes at Donghuamen Night Snack Street in Beijing, China, we will find the eating place/cafe/restaurant, eat and blog about it.

Besides unique, yummy local food, we also look for interesting dining experiences e.g. retro-style restaurant with a very romantic ambiance at Krakow, Poland or…

… dining in a Mini-Cooper at P.S. Bubu (where a scene in the F4 show: Meteor Garden 流星花园 was filmed)

Where to Stay

During our trip, we will also source for affordable accommodation and where possible, one that offers a unique experience e.g. sleeping in the attic of a 700-year old well-preserved Krumlov House in Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic.

What to See and Do

Having eaten and slept well during our trip, we complete our experience with reviews of interesting places we visited, ranging from the very eerie bone church at Kutna Hora, Czech Republic to …

… the very beautiful and magnificent architecture such as that of the Stephansdom Cathedral in Vienna, Austria.

Where and What to See, Do and Eat in Singapore

Besides our overseas experiences, we also blog about our adventures around Singapore, be it food outings such as taking on the Giant Ice-Cream Sundae Anbiry Baburu challenge or …

… visiting places of interest and attractions such as the recent October Night Safari Halloween Horrors experience.

Our Experiences with Nuffnang Singapore

We started blogging at PassportChop.com on 1 July 2009, with the intention to use this as a platform to share information with relatives and friends and also as a form of digital scrapbook to store our memories. Little did we expect that in less than 3 months, PassportChop.com was nominated as a Best Travel Blog Finalist in the 2009 Asia-Pacific Nuffnang Blog Awards.

While we did not win the Best Travel Blog award, we were very grateful to Nuffnang Singapore for the publicity and exposure of PassportChop.com to the blogging community as well as recognition for our efforts (we are still considered Top 5 Travel Blog in the Asia-Pacific region! :) )

Besides some kopi money we could potentially receive from displaying Nuffnang ads, we like the sincerity of the Nuffnang Singapore team in their outreach to bloggers through e.g. cool contests, free movies and various blogger outings, parties and networking sessions.
