Feisty Princess Charmaine

Dear Nuffnangers,

2009 has been a challenging year for all of us.

The economic crisis has created a lot of uncertainty in our professional and personal lives.

Despite the turmoil, the Nuffnang community has grown from strength to strength. Today, in Singapore alone, we number 40,000 bloggers, reaching over 750,000 Unique Visitors a day! This is an incredible number.

The Nuffnang Singapore Community has enjoyed many great events this year, including movie screenings like "He's just not that into you", "Confessions of a Shopaholic", "Startrek", Singapore's First Blogger Flashmob, the Singapore River Festival Tour, and Pajama Party.

I've said from the beginning that besides enjoying good times together, a community should also contribute to the good of society, and the betterment of the less fortunate.

Today, we have our first cause. And the Nuffnang team has found it in a brave 4 year old girl, called Charmaine.

A Nuffnanger herself (her mom blogs), Charmaine has been cruelly diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. Her chances of survival are slim (10-20%) if she remains in Singapore for treatment. But with treatment in the U.S., it will increase up to 40-50%.

The cost of this treatment is high though, with the initial deposit coming up to $500,000 SGD.

So far, many strangers have come forward and donated to help her mother achieve this goal, but much more needs to be done. With 40,000 bloggers, if each of you donates just $2, we will be able to achieve $80,000 to aid Charmaine's fight. This is our target.

Besides monetary aid, we also urge all Nuffnangers, with our ad unit up, to select "Allow charity ads" on your blog manager, to display a charity ad (when paid ads are not running), and drive awareness about Charmaine and her cause. This is another way you can help.

Nuffnang is leading the way, with the first donation. Coming from myself, and also Nuffnang Pte Ltd, we are donating $5,000 SGD to kick-start this campaign. All donors will be publicly acknowledged on our website (unless you want to remain anonymous), in a bid to remain transparent.

The Nuffnang team remains committed to answering any queries you should have. You can't put a price on life. I hope we will rise to the occasion and show everybody, how powerful a blogging community like ours is. Thank you very much on behalf of Charmaine, her mother Cynthia, and the rest of their dedicated team.
