Hello there, I’m Kelvin and a Daddy Blogger at www.cheekiemonkie.net. Wow, I never expected to be Nuffnang’s Featured Blogger Of The Month, and the first-ever male Parenting Blogger at that!
So what is there to know about me? I married the woman of my dreams 10 years ago, which seemed a really long time ago. And so here I am now, a truly blessed owner of 3 cheekiemonkies, 2 terrapins and 1 fabulous wife.
Frankly, I had never imagined myself to have 3 kids but stranger things have happened. And yes, I would like to think that I have singlehandedly bumped up the national birth rate as well.
Interestingly, when my eldest son Ash was born in 2005, my wife Sharon started this blog as a means to document the growing years of our child. Yes, child. Singular. At that time, we were sure we would stop at one. Stop laughing.
When she went back to work after her maternity leave ended, I took over the reins and have been chronicling my Fatherhood journey for a good 8 years now.
So now you know who is the one with all the free time.
Ayd, my second child, was born in 2006 – about 19 months after Ash. It wasn’t exactly planned, but on hindsight the timing couldn’t be better. Growing up, the 2 boys have been really close… minus the occasional squabbles that is.
Ale was the final roll of the dice for us, because Sharon wanted to have a legitimate reason to buy more hair accessories. She came to us in 2010. Since then, she has taught me that girls are indeed programmed differently from boys but more importantly, she has shown me that the loudest wails do often win.
Over the past 8 years, our blog has slowly evolved to one which serves to share kids-related ideas and activities with fellow parents.
I have often heard how some parents lament that Singapore is boring for kids, and that they are unable to think of any kids-friendly activities or places to go to whenever the weekend rolls by. But that’s just a myth – at least in my eyes.
There are tons of stuff to do and go in Singapore, if you know where to look. And that’s where the sharing through my blog comes in so hopefully, we are able to inspire other parents to embark on an exploring and bonding journey with their kids too.
And I believe that our blog is making a difference – I have had friends’ colleagues and strangers come up to me telling me that they go to my blog whenever they run out of ideas of where to bring their kids during the weekends or school holidays. And it never fails to make my day.
I get my blogging inspiration from – where else – the perspiration I accumulate when I bring my monkies out or when I run after them. So there is always something waiting to be blogged from my reservoir of experiences.
Someone once said – with Fatherhood, comes great responsibility – along with soiled diapers – and I have learned a great deal from my kids. Check out the 36 things I have learned since becoming a DAD here and here.
Through this blog, we have met many new people and made new friends along the way. A huge thanks for all the numerous opportunities that Nuffnang has provided… and if you are a blogger too but have yet to sign up with Nuffnang – what on earth are you waiting for???
Thanks also, to all the support that our readers have shown! It has been an amazing and wonderful journey thus far, and we are honoured to share our adventures with you. See you back at www.cheekiemonkie.net!
